someone somewhere

When I close my eyes
Someone somewhere floats
Amidst my thoughts
I wish I could talk to her
But my lips are motionless
Bereft of words...

Her eyes gleaming
Radiating love in its
Purest crystalline form
Making words shy away
Leaving me expressionless

I looked closely at the alluring pair
Unraveling its mystery...
It spoke of desperation
Straight from the bosom
Sings a melancholy song
Pangs of separation
Creeping its way into the heart
Tearing it apart
Defining love as ruthless, vicious and callous

Moments pass by
Situation abated
Impuissant was I
Hated to see her in pain
So I woke up from my trance
Alleviated from the agonizing throes

But the melancholy music remains
Lingering in my heart
Making her incessant
In my spirit...
...Till death do us apart!!

Life is beautiful

Went to school,
Hoping a glance at you.
Teachers teaching,
Yet my interest was you.
The day you were absent,
I was in the blue.
In an aesthetic style,
Life was beautiful!

Joined college,
Same one as you.
Same course and room,
Just for another glance at you.
In a bonny style,
Life was beautiful!

Come graduation,
And you left me
For a better placed joe.
Crest fallen was I,
The only time
Life was'nt beautiful!

I look back,
Find you and me.
In an empty classroom,
Different seats.
Occasional Glances
The language of hearts.
Life was beautiful!

Back in reality,
I realize you are happy.
No matter,
How far you are
You are the beating
Of my heart.
My light in the dark,
Our reminiscenes,
I will relish forever.
Beautiful life it was!
And will ever be!

A day in KV ONGC,Jorhat

It was one of my beginning days in my new school-KV ONGC,Jorhat.

Venue was class VII classroom. Just arrived after jumping out of the bus. Sometime later a spectacled 75% Big B lookalike entered, took attendance and left. At the time of attendance, a pretty girl –Sonakshi Sahasrabudhhe was standing by the blackboard and smiled at me when my roll number was called out. I just managed to yell- ees ssir!! As flashes of her pretty smile pierced my senses.

Then it was assembly time and our venerated principal started as usual after polishing his specs over his belly (which makes me wonder whether he is polishing his belly or his specs or just showing off his cury belly, lol!) “Pyare baccho Suprabhat!!.....kaal main ek bahut hi accha film dekha-Kabhi Khusi Khabi Gaam, bahut hi accha laga mujhe…ek parivaar ki rista dekhaya jata hai film mein……aap log bhi dekhiye aur kuch sikhiye………..ha aur ek baat, upto class 8,I repeat upto class 8,sabhi larke half pant pehenke ayenge, compulsory hai…Jai Hind!!” Just then I overheard some class 8 seniors beside me murmuring, “Buddha tu kyun nahi pehenta re,boxer mein aana kaal se…”, “…buddhe mein jawani ki bhoot chari hain, marega kab,goa ka beach banake rakha hai school…”

Assembly over, it was time for some social studies. Entered our cherished Mr. Sanjay Kohli Wangchuk Sir, determined for some social welfare service after missing a drop of polio, so that our progenies don’t suffer from the same fate. At that entry time, Kausik (a teacher’s son) was pestering me to exchange my seat with his so that he can sit beside pretty Sonakshi’s group. SKW sir saw us and decided to show amnesty to Kuasik (as colleague’s son), but called me to the blackboard. I was petrified of a nice thrashing or a questionarie about Moguls, but he was innovative and drew a circle of somewhat the size of a 1 paise coin and about 2 inches above my nose’s height. He edicted me to sense it with the tip of my nose for 5 odd minutes. (I was angry as it there was no fault of mine and began thinking some negatives of him…remembered what my classmate Mrinmoi Baruah confided in me that when he first came for registration in school and saw a limping SKW, he took him for a peon for sure and was about to ask him for a registration form!)

“yeh us jamaneki baat hai jab sultan Muhammad bin Tughluq....” SKW proceeded, consistently showing off his bent index finger as a prized possession, “…ayeee kya ho raha hai udhar? ye koi picture nahi chal raha hai, baat maat kar! Bajawunga kan ke niche tab malum parega main kaun hu! (stares for sometime clamping his white teeth in a black background and making some very serious expressions in a modified Dabbang style) “Muhummad bin……”,he continued. I wondered if he was actually a minister at Tughluq’s court.

Then came the library period which was basically meant for gossiping for nautanki fellas like me and some of my friends under the very nose of the unsuspecting ‘choure’ pehelwan Ramnaresh Kumar sir. “Have you ever seen a 5 rupees balloon?”,quipped Riganka. “yeah a perfect 5 rs one”, added his buddy Banta Pilankar who were sitting besides me. Just then Pycraft, as I later got to know his name and seating beside Rigs., blared out “Toi nije ki? Oh sandipani, tumi zoka dekhisa nai zoka??”. Then I realized that balloon was referred to him citing his protruding belly.

Back in classroom was our English period and entered our charming Mrs. Shweta Chaterjee maa’m who conducted a sentence making test and when I was getting it checked when she enquired about my health as I had fainted in the assembly the day before. “wat do ya have for breakfast and tiffin??”,she enquired.

“chappati in breakfast and….”

“maa’m boiled egg, anda!! Eats it by the whole, swallows it maa’m!!”, yelled Riganka, complete with some supportive actions. Mrs. Chaterjee poked out her eyes at him before aiming them at me and I was lost for words. “So you take eggs??” “err eiess..” “Good good have it daily” (Later on ,she often makes sure that I take eggs in my tiffin. Even once in a class 9,she enquired about the same.)

Then came the dreaded subject Hindi and entered Mr. Deepankar Rastogi sir who proceeded to sing some Kabir dohas, “Maala Pherat Jug Bhaya, Mita Na Man Ka Pher Kar Ka Manka Chhor De,Man Ka Manka Pher….”some of us began giggling at his mesmerizing tone “….hey why are you laughing? Dohas are meant for singing not reciting…sandipani tu sudherega nahi!!”. I just could not control myself anymore and led out a small burst of hee hee haha and others joined me. “hey Bhagwan!”,he tapped his forehead and decided to recite instead.

The much awaited last period of drawing arrived and was conducted by a spectacled Mr. Roy sir. He drew a nice young girl’s face in the board and I wondered if it was his daughter. Anyway I began scribbling it down. Glancing at my benchmate’s drawing book, I found him tearing off one of the pages. Closer examination revealed that it was a sketch of Mr. Roy with his big round harry potter specs and with a heading ‘WANTED’ followed by ‘Reward Of 50000$’. I wondered if Mr. Roy was wanted internationally by the US… Sensing my attention was somewhere else, Mr. Roy shouted, “Ayee aisa raasi khichungga ki jibon(life) ka gaadi rukh jayega”. Frightened, I quickly resumed my work.

TONG!TONG!!TONG!!!

That was the last thing i wanted in my ears. I grabbed my bag and dashed out indifferent to Mr. Roy’s “ay rukhja …rukh…” in order to secure a nice window seat in the bus.

my little friend in gym

I was going on in one of my sessions and was starting to feel collywobbles due to hunger. I was desperate and was thinking of having anything for food when i noticed this doozy creature sitting like a czar and proudly erecting its long tail. I stared at it cap-a-pie. At this time my mind was filled with the recipes that were published for germany and others..... 'Grill the octopus oracle. Throw Paul in the saucepan...','...Bring to boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes. Drain octopus, place in a bowl with soy, tomato sauce and sweet chili sauce. Stir to combine. Heat barbecue to high and grill octopus for 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally, until cooked or lightly charred. Garnish with parsley...',BBQ Garlic Octopus,Chili Lemon Octopus,Spanish Braised Octopus in Paprika Sauce,Polpi in Umido-Italian Octopus Stewed in Wine and Tomatoes.....
...
now the question is-
will those recipes work in this case???
will it be yummy yummy???
mamma mia!!!
OR
should i go for BEAR GRYLLS' (man vs wild on discovery) recipes that are not found in any restaurant of the world???
As i was considering the different recipes,it made a giant leap like Armstrong did it on moon under 1/6th of g,i was left only with some snapshots.......
Alas!!have to go hungry today....next time....

perpetual memories

You're my heart's beat,
You're the air i breathe,
Broken wings of my dreams,
You are all that i desiderated,
Indelibly and perpetually.
Time has passed,
But not the sentiments
of your love,
and your passionate touch,
of the day we made love,
of those taciturn moments in the park,
holding hands..
..walking down the lanes
of romancing over the green...

Now you're gone
leaving me lone
In a cocoon of self imprisonment
With those virginal memories,
Still compleat.
My ruth misses you
day and night.
It starts in the morning
and ends in the night.

Let the heavenly angels
Take care of another one,
Till i breath my last
Till then be my preduring
guiding luminary source
and my illusions' chimera!

Kargil War Heroes

TRIBUTE
They'd promised their families they'd come back soon. They more than kept their word. Went as mere men. Came back as heroes. In coffins.

"THEY GAVE THEIR TODAY FOR OUR TOMORROW"

Over a 400 of them at last count. Median age 19 to 35.The grim-faced army officers receiving the coffins, draped in the tricolour, the carriage to the army parade ground, the set-jawed shok shastra farewell salute by steely soldiers. The silent sorrow of upraised guns, slowly brought, barrel downward, to the ground, left arm tautly extended to the right before retracking, the holding of palm to chest, the sudden dropping of head, the 30-second hushed silence, then the regulation rajnigandha and marigold wreaths from the army and air chiefs, the general officer commanding, fellow officers, the battalion, before the body escorted by a comrade begins its last journey home. Wreathed in white, the colour of the pure; kesariya, the colour and insignia of the brave. Now across mountains, now across rivers, plains.

The lines of pain criss-cross the entire nation.

Victory in Kargil is certainly a defining moment in the history of Independent India. It was the outcome of supreme sacrifice by the soldiers of this country, displaying valor with dignity. Kargil was not an easy win. The terrain was tough and the enemy was perched comfortably on high mountain peaks. The task was to regain the occupied peaks. The Kargil victory was a tarvel for the Indian Armed forces as they conducted the war without violating any international norms.

Poverty...what is it?

Poverty is the lack of basic necessities that all human beings must have: food and water, shelter, education, medical care, security, etc. A multi-dimensional issue, poverty exceeds all social, economic, and political boundaries. As such, efforts to alleviate poverty must be informed of a variety of different factors.

Some Facts:

4.4 billion people live in developing countries

Of these …

Three-fifths lack basic sanitation

Almost one third have no access to clean water

A quarter do not have adequate housing

A fifth have no access to modern health services

Percentage of people living below the poverty line

Europe and Central Asia
3.5%
Latin America and Caribbean
23.5%
Sub-Saharan Africa
38.5%
Middle East and North Africa
4.1%
South Asia
43.1%

Causes of third world poverty

Trade
Third world countries lose out through unfair trade agreements, lack of technology and investment, and rapidly changing prices for their goods.

Work and globalisation
Better communications and transport have led to a “globalised” economy. Companies look for low-cost countries to invest in. This can mean that, though there are jobs, they are low-paid.

War or conflict
When a country is at war (including civil war) basic services like education are disrupted. People leave their homes as refugees. Crops are destroyed.

Debt
Third world countries have to pay interest on their debts. This means they cannot afford to spend enough on basic services like health and education; nor on things like transport or communications that might attract investment

Land
If you have land you can grow your own food. But many people in the Third World have had their land taken over by large businesses, often to grow crops for export

Health
Affordable or free health care is necessary for development. In poor countries the percentage of children who die under the age of five is much higher than in rich countries. HIV/AIDS is having a devastating effect on the Third World

Food and education
Affordable, secure food supplies are vital. Malnutrition causes severe health problems, and can also affect education. Without education it is difficult to escape from poverty. This becomes a vicious circle – people who live in poverty cannot afford to send their children to school.

Gender
When we measure poverty we find differences between the level experienced by men or boys, and women or girls. Women may be disadvantaged through lack of access to education; in some countries they are not allowed to own or inherit land; they are less well paid than men.

He and She are poor;

Not because they are borne so;

In fact, it is the failure of the institutions,

polices and programme

that they continue to be poor and

marginalized.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of him/(her)self and his/(her) family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services... Everyone has the right to education

WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP THIS RULE HAPPEN?

Ø Donate our old clothes to the poor.

Ø Join an NGO working for the poor.

Ø Cut down our unnecessary needs and wastage.

Ø Give our old books and magazines to unprivileged children.

Ø Take literacy classes in our spare time.

Poverty Targets

2015 poverty targets
Members of the Organisation for Co-operation and Development (OECD) agreed these after the 1995 Copenhagen summit. They aim to reduce poverty in third world countries by at least one half by 2015.

20/20 initiative
At the same summit some governments agreed that 20% of aid and 20% of the budget of the developing country receiving that aid would be spent on basic services.

Summing it up:

Poverty doesn't know your age, or the colour of your skin, he
doesn't even care about the poor state that you're in.

He doesn't want to know, if you're hungry, or you're cold, he just
keeps calm and quiet, while head bent you hold.

Many who have met him? are still with him today, not through
their own choices, but by him not giving way.

Desperately needing clothes or shoes, so into purse you peer, you'll
have to wait another week, or visit charities you fear.

He knows you've little money, and this he never defends, he knows
you'll have to borrow, from loan sharks, or from friends

He doesn't even blink an eye, when you're worse off than before, he
swears, that it's your own fault, you must have known the score.

Let's end poverty ... NOW!

lets workout!!

"Its exercise that supports the spirits and keeps the mind in vigour”

Fitness means good health and happiness. It’s a state of feeling high without taking drugs and if you have a tremendous level of fitness you always feel high.

Now let’s come to the main part of being fit and building mass starting with….

NUTRITION:

Nutrition plays the most vital role in mass build up and keeping fit.

Avoid oily and fast foods. They not only puts up empty calories but also fats and gets deposited inside your heart arteries and causes heart problems in the long run. Increase protein intake alongwith your wholesome diet. Go for protein shakes and egg whites. Egg whites are a safer ,productive and a cheaper option. An egg white contains about 2.5 to 3.5 gm protein with almost no fat at all while the yolk contains about 1.2 to 2 gm protein along with cholesterol, fats, vitamins and minerals. But its best recommended to skip the yolk because of it cholesterol and fat content which tends to increase the blood pressure significantly. Go for egg whites according to your workout needs. Take it hard boiled or raw and no salt as it also tends to increase the B.P.Raw egg, according to belief is absorbed by the body fast but you run the risk of contracting salmonella.

Coming to sugar intake, its recommended that a normal adult should not take more than 2.5 gms of sugar daily. Besides the risk of diabetes, sugar breaks down muscle fibers. So soft drinks and processed juices which contains about 16-18gm sugar per serve should be avoided. Go for plenty of fruits instead. Bodybuilding supplements such as whey protein and creatine which are free ofsteroids may be taken to supplement exhaustive workouts. But I recommend you to steer away from these and build up mass naturally as these products contains preservatives and also not 100% pure as the companies claim and also quite expensive. Furthermore over intake leads to kidney and liver problems. By the way you can try out the Amway nutrilite series.

Go for vitamin B-complex capsules or syrup. These group of vitamins are water soluble and does not accumulate in the body and the excess is passed out. It helps to boost the immunity level and overall wellbeing. Some good brands are zincovit, becosules, polybion and zevit. Take one capsule a day after meal.

Working it out:

Start by stretching exercises so as to warm up and avoid injuries and pain.

After warming up begin working out on the major muscle groups:chest, back, triceps, biceps, shoulders, legs, quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, calves and abdominals.

Alternate gym sessions with pushing and pulling exercises and also wind it up with another round of stretching to avoid cramps and pains.

Some guidelines are:

Breathing should be controlled, slow and steady.

Movements should also be controlled, slow and steady(preferably infront of mirror).

Gradual increment of weights to optimum weight.

Sets should be of about 4-6 times a day (excluding the warm up mini sets of lightweights).

Repetitions should be of 8-10 times a set.

(optimum weight in my terms is that quantity of weight by which you feel extremely exhausted in the 8-10TH repetition of the set.)

Some general exercises:

FOR BICEPS :

BICEPS CURL

Stand with your knees slightly bent, shoulder distance apart. Hold weight in arms, with palms facing up. Lift weight slowly until it almost touches your upper arm. Return to starting position. Shoulder to elbow stays still, only lower arm, from elbow to hand moves. Elbows stay close to the body.

Note: Keep elbows close to body.

HAMMER CURL

Stand with your knees slightly bent shoulder width apart. Hold weights in hands with palms facing body. Life weight slowly until is almost touches your upper arms. Return to starting position. Shoulder to elbow stays still, only lower arm from elbow to hand moves.

Note: Keep elbows close to body.

FOR TRICEPS:

TRICEPS DIP

Feet on floor providing good base. Support yourself with arms on seat of couch. Bending at elbow, lower body. Return to starting position.

note: Elbow to hands stays still. Movement is from elbow to shoulder.

Straighter your body the more difficult the exercise will be.

FRONT SHOULDER RAISE

Stand with your knees slightly bent, hip distance apart. Hold weight in arms and raise hands until they are level with shoulders. Return to starting position.

note: Squeeze abs with each repetition.

Complete exercise with water bottles in each hand to reduce weight.

FOR SHOULDERS:

SHOULDER PRESS

Sit in chair with good posture, using hands and forearms to create a good base. Holding weights in each hand with elbow bent next to shoulder. Extend each hand/arm straight up (do not lock elbows). Return to starting position.

note: Keep abdominal muscles tight to create a solid core.

FOR CHEST:

CHEST PRESS

Lay flat with knees bent, feet flat on floor. Hold weight at chest level and extend arms straight overhead. Return to starting position.

(Also beneficial for triceps and shoulders.)

PUSH UPS

Place hands on incline with a slight bend in elbow. Create firm base with knees and toes on the floor. Lean forward bending at the elbows. Return to starting position.

note: Keep abdominals contracted to keep body in correct form.

Also different forms are there such as star and delta push ups.

Tip: Closer feet/ knees are to arms easier the exercise will be. To increase difficulty, extend feet back and raise knees off floor.

(Also beneficial for triceps and shoulders.)

FLIES

Lay flat on floor with knees bent and feet on floor. Begin with weights held in hands straight up above chest with arms slightly bend. Drop hands out towards floor keeping arms slightly bent. Return to starting position.

note: think of hugging a tree.

(Also beneficial for shoulders.)

STANDING CHEST PRESS

Stand with feet shoulder width apart with knees slightly bent. Begin by holding handles of band on either side of chest. Extend hands until arms are almost straight (keep slight bend in elbow). Return to starting position.

Note: Squeeze abdominal muscles with each repetition.

FOR CHEST and TRICEPS:

PULL OVER

Lay flat with knees bent, feet flat on floor. Hold weight with arms extended above chest, with elbows slightly bent. Slowly bring weight back above head. Return to starting position.

FOR LATS AND SHOULDERS:

WIDE LAT MACHINE PULL DOWN

Sit with spinal chord straight on the lat pulldown machine with hands gripping wide. Pull down behind your back not infront which is a common mistake that gymmers do without the help of trainer.

note: completely open open up the elbows, more difficult exercise will be.

FOR BACK :

Pull ups will do the trick. Do it completely and open up your elbows.

Also lat machine is beneficial.

FOR POWERFUL LEGS AND CALVES:

SQUAT

Stand with your knees slightly bent, slightly wider than hip distance apart. Hold weight in between legs. Focus on keeping your weight in your heals (this helps you stay in correct form). Drop your rear end just like you are sitting in a chair. Return to starting position.

note: Move straight down NOT forward.

Begin with no weight to establish good form.

STAIRS!!!.....Any stairs anywhere anytime!!!

Think of ROCKY BALBOA!!!!

FOR GLUTES, QUADS, HAMSTRINGS:

LUNGE

Stand with front foot firmly on ground, with slight bend in knee. Extend rear foot back with only toe of foot on floor. Holding onto chair bend front knee. Return to starting position.

note: Drop straight DOWN not move forward.

FOR ABDOMINALS:

ABDOMINAL CRUNCH

Lay flat on back, place feet under couch. Place fingertips on back of head with elbows straight out to the side. Keeping eyes on ceiling lift straight up towards ceiling.

note: Extending arms overhead will increase difficulty.

Pretend a tennis ball is in between chin and chest to help keep head and neck in proper form.

Now lets come to the cardiovascular part:

Cardiovascular training is impotant to increase stamina and trim the left out fats and calories.

Moreover you get more definition of your cuts(also read abs) as it trims away the fats. Most beneficial forms are sprinting, jogging, skipping, jumping and german training which includes running sideways, backwards, line touching, etc.

Other ways of staying fit:

Sports such as swimming, football and tennis are extremely beneficial. They not only helps tone our bodies but also improves stamina, organ coordination, flexibility and reflexes.

SO HERE ARE THE BENEFITS:

  • Weight control
  • Increased wellness
  • Look good
  • Feel good
  • Core strength increases
    • Abdominal, paraspinal (back), gluteal muscles
  • Improved performance
  • Reducing risks of injury
  • Reducing risks of osteoporosis

SOME FACTS and TIPS:

You don’t’t grow muscles during workouts, you actually break them which triggers new growth

Avoid smoking and alcohol, they are killers.

Steroids are highly dangerous and have permanent and life
threatening consequences.

Hit the bicycle instead of bike whenever possible. It saves mother nature too. Biking for me is only for thrills at great speeds (but plz b careful n perform stunts in clear roads or grounds only with helmet).

If you are having a hectic life stlye, then work out on weekends. Or go out for jogs early in the mornings and combine it with some exercises such as the aerobic, crunches, pullups, pushups, or anything that you find suitable in your locality in between jogging. Combine jogging and sprinting. (Also try out parkour stunts such as climbing buildings, somersaults, etc so as to build up a terrific combo of stamina and strength)

SO ITS NOW TIME TO HIT THE GYM SCIENTIFICALLY AND SYSTEMATICALLY AND LIVE A HEALTHY ROCKY BALBOA LIFE!!!

HAPPY WORKOUTS!!!

(ANY QUERIES,COMMENTS OR SUGGESTIONS ARE HEARTILY WELCOME…)
